Born in 1908, the ENSG became ”École Nationale Supérieure d'Ingénieurs” in 1948. It is an engineering school funded by the French Ministry of Education, Research and Technology. The ENSG is one of the founders of the National Polytechnique Institute of Lorraine (now  Université de Lorraine ) along with six other engineering schools and a school of Architecture.

Situated in Nancy, the ENSG has a central position in the European community. Over a period of three years the ENSG trains general engineers who acquire in depth knowledge in geosciences : it is the only engineering school in France to offer this type of training.


LEM is the research unit dedicated to environment and minerals in the Otelo structure.


Nancy along with its surrounding suburbs has some 350,000 inhabitants, and is located 60 km from Metz, 300 km from Paris, 100 km from Luxembourg, and 140 km from Saarbrücken. Nancy has a long-standing tradition as a university town covering every discipline. There are 42,000 students, including 4,000 from other countries, spread over the universities. Nancy is also an important industrial and commercial centre. 

The climate in Nancy is midly continental, hot summers, cold winters (in January, the peak temperature is -5°C and it often snows. In July, the peak temperature is approximately 30°C permitting various sporting activities such as winter sports in the Vosges Mountains, sailing and rowing.....(source)
